Blog 2: Flower Dissection ( Biology Practical periods 6th & 7th )

Good morning dear Students.
Kindly mark your Attendance for Practicals once again.

Today we will achieve the following Learning outcomes :-
Students will be able to -
1. Define each whorl of the Hibiscus rosa-sinensis  flower.

2. Dissect each whorl of the flower.

3. Analyse Transverse Section of Ovary.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS :-

1. Today we will do Experiment 2 that is Dissection of Hibiscus flower.

2. In this blog I will give you the written file work in format. Kindly follow that only while writing this experiment in your practical file.

3. You will draw the given floral diagram on the blank side, where you start with the description of the flower.

4. Since you are not able to do this dissection now. I have send 2 YouTube video links with this blog.

Watch the links in order

First  watch " PARTS of FLOWER "
This will give you an idea of how many parts the flower is divided into.

Then Watch the second YouTube video link " Dissection of flower & TS of ovary ".
This video will help you understand how we need to do the dissection of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis in Lab. This we will do once the school reopens for us.

5. Try & get your file sheets arranged so you can complete your Practical file work. It is really vast & we may not have time in the end.

So Let's Begin

OBSERVATION :-

(Write only kingdom, order, family, genus & species from the Scientific Classification)

WRITE the Floral Formula & Floral Diagram on the blank sheet adjacent to where you will write your OBSERVATION.

PRECAUTIONS :-

----------------------------------------------------------------------
QUIZ

Answer the following questions here on the blog comment space after watching the whole dissection  video & read the flower description:-

1. What is Flower?

2. How many whorls does a flower have?

3. Mention the four whorls of a flower?

4. Which Dicotyledonous flower have you studied?
